ADULT COURSES
QURAN AND TAJWEED CLASSES (FOR SISTERS)
MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY MORNINGS
10:00am TO 11:30am
During the lifetime of the Prophet (saw,) the Sahabah and those who followed them, would recite the Quran with Tajweed. That is, emphasising, stretching, pronouncing and delivering every letter with the rulings and characteristics that apply to it. Reciting the Quran in this manner is a necessity and enables the reciter to correct and beautify his/her recitation. Thus, the reciter can recite the Quran in the method that the Prophet and his companions would recite it and as it was received from JIbrail by the Prophet (saw) in the classical Arabic dialect.
Arabic letters each have a Makhraj – an exit or articulation point - in the mouth or throat from which they originate and they also each have Sifaat – attributes, or characteristics - particular to them. Knowing the Makhraj and Sifaat of each letter is an important part of Tajweed. Sometimes two letters have very similar exits which makes mixing them up easy. So if a person does not know the attributes of each letter there is a danger that he will change the meaning of the words in Qur’an recitation. Observing the rules of Tajweed in reciting protects the reciter from making mistakes in reciting the Qur’an.
Every Muslim should take it upon himself to study the science of tajweed so that his salaah and recitation is perfected. However, in order to do this, one must study under a mujawwid or qari (a teacher who has mastered the art tajweed and is ably to rectify the mistakes of others)
